Study & Develop teaching quality & Reflect

With our work we would like to contribute to a high quality of teaching and studies by advising responsible persons and decision makers in the study programs as well as providing necessary and helpful information for decision making. We regularly reflect on our system of external evaluations in the form of accreditations and internal surveys and develop it further together with the stakeholders.

From short surveys to stakeholder interviews to standardized evaluations , we support you in your teaching and program development. We support your preparation with various formats for the regular accreditation of study programs and the development of legally compliant and up-to-date examination regulations .

Furthermore, we carry out or coordinate target and target group oriented measures for quality assurance and development of studies and teaching. For this  we provide you with prepared data and analysis results.

Last but not least, students can contact the university-wide improvement and complaint system of HWG LU, which is centrally managed by our department. Your inquiries will of course be handled completely confidentially.

In the meantime, study programs only have to be accredited every eight years, regardless of whether it is the first or a further reaccreditation. However, this good news should not hide the fact that, in our experience, the time and personnel required to prepare the necessary documentation has not decreased. Since a number of actors are involved in accreditations, a timetable is the prelude to every accreditation procedure - experience has shown that drawing it up in good time is half the battle. Studium & Lehre accompanies all accreditation procedures. Get in touch with us in good time, ideally two years before the accreditation deadline expires.

In the system of quality assurance and development at HWG LU, which is being successively introduced in the study programs, the process of (further) development of the study program plays a central role. The current considerations provide for a close interlocking and orientation of the instruments and measures provided there with the requirements and the process of accreditation. In this way, the rather selective, externally initiated intervention in a study program through accreditation becomes a continuous, self-designed quality development process. The guidelines for quality assurance and development provide information on the current status. Further information and concrete templates, handouts and process descriptions are available on the university's intranet. (You will be taken directly to the linked intranet page if you have logged on to the intranet before clicking on it).

The content-related design of teaching and examinations as well as the formal architecture of study programs may and should be further developed at any time, regardless of the time of accreditation. The further development of study programs is an ongoing process that is not limited to the period of preparation for accreditation. By no means does every change have to be "inter-accredited". Contact us if you would like to make adjustments to your study program. We will be happy to support you in the didactic, curricular, examination law and technical implementation. You can find more information in the"Individual offers for teachers" section.

Results from evaluations and anonymized data from the student and application portal can provide you with helpful information on the development of your study program and the quality of teaching and studying. The results from evaluations will be sent to you regularly via your evaluation officers. Further information (e.g. questionnaires, evaluation plan, etc.) can be found in the OpenOLAT course Evaluation Report HWG LU. The HGW LU numerical report is available via Seafile. More information on how to access it is available on the intranet.  (You will be taken directly to the linked intranet page if you have logged into the intranet before clicking on it). We would also be happy to talk to you about other options for data generation, data preparation, and possibilities and limitations for interpretation and use.

The system of quality assurance and development at HWG LU is in the process of successive development. The aim is to implement a continuous process of (further) development of study programs, which prepares and follows up the accreditation of the Accreditation Council, which takes place every eight years, in a resource-saving manner and uses the period between accreditations for reflection on quality in study and teaching as well as the development and implementation of measures for the further development of the study program. Study and teaching quality should thus be defined and implemented independently and contextually, in particular in the respective study program, independent of external views and requirements, for example through accreditation.

For more information on the status of the system of quality assurance and development, please refer to the Guidelines Quality Assurance and Development and the intranet. (You will be taken directly to the linked intranet page if you have logged into the intranet before clicking on it). Please also feel free to contact us with any questions or suggestions.

Our university has a set of several instruments that are regularly used to reflect on and further develop education:

  • a theory-based online teaching evaluation formwhich was created with the participation of teaching staff and students, is regularly used for the standardized evaluation of courses
  • the Teaching Analysis Poll is a qualitative instrument for the further development of the course, which can be carried out at the request of the lecturers. If you are interested, please register here: studium-lehre@ 8< SPAM protection, please remove >8 hwg-lu.de
  • Feedback discussions in the departments are used to obtain feedback on the semester in general at degree program level and also provide indications of problems in the quality of education

In some cases, changes to the study program entail adjustments to the Special Examination Regulations (SPO). This is almost always the case with accreditations, but is of course also possible at any other time. Depending on the type and scope, adjustments to the examination regulations are implemented by means of a so-called amendment regulation to the SPO or by means of a completely new SPO. Please contact us if you think that the SPO of your study program needs to be adapted. There are no superfluous questions. The Department of Studies & Teaching examines all amendment and new examination regulations on behalf of the Presidential Board.
