Research at the Department of Social and Health Services

The research pages of the department's homepage provide information on research topics, funding and support for research, doctoral opportunities, and research events at the department.

The department understands research as an important part of science, which critically examines social developments and thus also intervenes in social discourses. The basis of the research profile is thus an understanding of "critical science", which sees the fields of "social work" and "nursing and health" as well as science itself as being shaped by tensions and contradictions caused by society or arising from individual lifestyles:

1.     between institutionalized offers with their administrative, economic, legal, self-preserving organizational logic and the addressed users with their subjective ideas of a good life, with their stubbornness and their specific needs,

2.     between scientific-academic education with its freedom, its professional-ethical ideals, its high professional demands for good practice and the reality of everyday professional life with its pressure to perform, lack of personnel and resources and problematic working conditions.

These contradictions result, among other things, in tasks for practice-, institution- and everyday life-oriented research references as well as for the further development of scientific concepts and theories. Further introductory information on the research concept of the department can be found here.

The Center for Research and Cooperation (ZFK), as the service center of the Ludwigshafen University of Applied Sciences for business and society, provides further important information on research-relevant topics on its homepage.
